Re: Sample Ballots Will Go Out Sept 27th

I forgot Sonoma County Measure M.

M is County-wide 1/8 % sales tax for County PARKS.

If you recall, previously there was a 1/4 % sales tax for parks that failed. That was an odd one because it would have applied in the unincorporated areas only. Only stores located outside city limits would have collected it. For example Friedman Brothers on Santa Rosa Avenue would have collected it, but Home Depot in Rohnert Park would not have.

This new 1/8 % tax would be collected at all stores in the County, those in city limits and those outside.

If passed, this would be like what happened with the Library tax. A 1/4 % tax failed, then they went back to the voters with a 1/8 % tax that passed. Interestingly the library has not only been able to restore the hours they are open, but they now have a budget surplus. So apparently they were over-reaching when they first went for a 1/4 % tax.

You can view your sample ballot online, but have to click a few times and put in your address. Sample ballots vary, depending on whether you are in or outside the city limits, what school and fire districts you are in etc., so your complete address is needed. First it will tell you your polling place, which most of us already know, but you will also see an option to download your sample ballot in pdf form.

    https://vote.sonoma-county.org/

go to this reg of voters site, then click on this:

    Polling Place / County Voter
    Information Guide

then follow the prompts to enter address, and it will give you this:

Search Results: 1 Polling Place Found
The following Polling Place matches your search criteria:
    Voter Information Guide:
County Voter Information Guide for Consolidated General Election: November 6, 2018 (PDF)

and you can click on the "found" voter information guide and the pdf sample ballot will download.
