Thank you to Julie Johnson of the Press-Democrat for her article about the State Bar's investigation of DA Ravitch. Of course, Julie could not cover details in a brief report, so I have attached to this post the complaint that our family filed with the California State Bar.
Our weekly Tuesday morning protests of DA Ravitch's job performance began on April 29, 2014, and continued until September of 2016. Normally four of us handed out flyers criticizing both the DA and the Sheriff for their refusal to recognize the obvious involuntary manslaughter crime committed by Deputy Erick Gelhaus. There were large signs, a table with chairs, and a megaphone to get the message out. I attach here only one of many highly-critical flyers.
At first DA Ravitch passed by a few times. We always invited her to stop and talk. After a few weeks she stopped passing by and began taking a different route to the Administration Building. She claims the identity of all four of those people, who consistently castigated her publicly outside her office for over two years, was unknown to her until our meeting on April 24 of this year! If she is telling the truth, then she is admitting to incompetence.
As the county's top law enforcement officer, she has a due diligence responsibility to protect the public from unsafe encounters with potentially rowdy protest situations. At the very least, due diligence demanded that she run simple background checks on the four protesters. She claims she did not. She also claims that she tried to answer all our questions during our meeting with her. Not true. We submitted 15 questions in advance of our meeting, of which she answered only the first four. She refused to answer the others (attached below). Thanks for reading. If you are interested, there are more details in the attachments.
