Companion wanted for 97-year old woman

My 97 year old mother lives in an apartment adjacent to our house. We are looking for a companion. She usually toilets, washes, and dresses by herself, with some lapses. She likes to talk and likes to see beautiful clouds, ocean, sky, etc. She has moderate dementia.

She is very Catholic. Like many people in her situation, she denies she needs help and certainly not caregiving. We have a caregiver who spends 30 hours a week with her, acting as a “helpful friend.” We’d love to find another helpful friend. We will pay $20 an hour.

What we really want is one evening a week, in which the companion would eat dinner with her (either we or the companion would make dinner) and then watch old movies for a couple of hours. This would allow us to have an evening free.

We would also like someone who is able to work on a Saturday or Sunday for six hours or so, with the possibility of an occasional overnight.

Mom is very pleasant and witty. Most everyone adores her. She is generally chipper.
