Sharing this email I rec'd from Friends of Atascadero Wetlands.....
Thanks to all your support, Friends of Atascadero Wetlands has achieved a great success with the Supervisors’ approval of a General Plan Amendment that protects 158 acres of Atascadero Creek wetlands. As you know, our mission is to preserve, protect, enhance and restore the wetland and riparian areas of Atascadero Creek for present and future generations.
You're receiving this email because we wanted you to know that our steering committee endorses Noreen Evans for Fifth District Supervisor, because we feel Noreen is the candidate most likely to help us further our mission.
Our decision is based partly on the two candidates' responses to our query about providing additional protections for the Atascadero Marsh. FAW believes that policy changes in the General Plan and zoning, as suggested by Evans, will potentially provide more protection than using easements, as suggested by Lynda Hopkins. Easements are expensive and laborious. Zoning regulations require only three supervisor votes.
Noreen Evans represented this area in the state legislature. She has a proven, long term commitment to and a record of support for the environment. She opposed offshore oil drilling, worked to keep state parks open and to protect fisheries, and supported strong protection policies in the Local Coastal Plan. She is endorsed by the Sierra Club and most long-term Sonoma County environmentalists.
Hopkins may be well-intentioned, but she has no experience or involvement in politics except to oppose a development in her neighborhood. There is so much at stake in Sonoma County at this time, and experience working in government and the ability to accomplish goals is essential. The job of supervisor is grueling and no place for on-the-job training.
For these reasons, we recommend that you vote for Noreen Evans for Fifth District Supervisor on November 8th.
