from The Press Democrat, 8/26:
EDITOR: I’m a Russian River resident who signed the petition several months ago for detachment from the Palm Drive Health Care District. Since then, I have found out more about this issue. My parcel taxes for the district will not go away if we are detached. They may be reduced, but I will still be paying for the bonds ($22 million) and the bankruptcies.I now think that although I haven’t used the new hospital, it is a good idea to have a hospital west of Highway 101 in case of emergencies or a natural disaster. I also now know that the district is offering community services on the Russian River, and I think my community can benefit from these services. I’ve come to the conclusion that detachment isn’t a good idea, and I encourage other residents of my community to think seriously about this issue.CORINA ROWEGuern
