Puerto Rico faces a big debt deadline tomorrow. It can either make a $354 million payment to hedge funds holding its bonds, or keep that money to pay for essential government services and default. Many of the hedge funds are not willing to negotiate, and are trying to keep the U.S. territory from getting bankruptcy protection, a status that was critical to Detroit’s economic rebound.
Lawmakers Al Franken and Nydia Velazquez joined financial reform advocates recently to discuss the unfolding humanitarian crisis on the island. You can watch highlights of that gathering here .
