Tell Sonoma County to Renew Its Greenbelt Protections
Sonoma County’s community separator policies, which prevent sprawl development on greenbelt lands between cities and towns, are set to expire starting in 2016.
Passed by voters over 20 years ago with a landslide majority of over 70%, these policies have protected 17,000 acres of precious green spaces from becoming housing tracts and shopping malls. We need to renew and strengthen these voter-backed policies before they expire next year—or risk opening the door to new sprawl development. And we need to get started now.
The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors will be reviewing these policies later this month. We need your help to push county leaders to develop a ballot measure for next year’s general election that will renew, strengthen, and add priority greenbelt lands to community separator designations.
