Dairyman Winery & Big Wine in the news

The growing struggle against Dairyman Winery and event center and the expanding consolidation of the Wine Empire is mentioned in the following places in the July Sonoma County Gazette:

    2. "Doing my part...," long letter by Hilary Avalon of the Watertrough Children's Alliance that struggles against bad apple Paul Hobbs, p. 3. It has links to NY Times, LA Times, Practical Winery, and Press Democrat articles on Big Wine.

    3. Stephanie Hiller mentions the June Four County Network meeting in Calistoga and the pending July 11, Sat. meeting in Graton in her monthly column "Savory Sonoma," which reports on events in the Valley of the Moon, p. 41. Her article begins by referring to a blog by Fred Allebach posted at Sonomasun.com titled "Machiavelli, Power, & Sonoma." Hiller poses the question "What Kind of Community Do We Want?" in her title.

Part of the answer to that question appears in the current "Russian River Times," p.8. Brock Dolman of the Occidental Arts and Ecology Center wrote a letter to the Sebastopol Grange membership, which sponsored a June showing of the film "Inhabit," which is about permaculture. Over 200 people attended and many had to be turned away. The article includes a photo taken before the film was shown and the panel spoke. Permaculture, with its emphasis on "regenerativity," rather than mere "sustainability," is part of the solution. It is important to criticize what one does not agree with, but also present solutions, which the film and distinguished permaculture designers managed to do with skill, grace, and joy.
