Details of the workshop are below. We are planning to build on the work we began with you all last fall in creating an urgent response and communication network for Zapatista-inspired organizations. Please come if you can and spread the word to others you may know who would be interested in joining us.
Zapatismo Here and There: Networking and Solidarity
Workshop time: Friday, June 26, 2015, 10:30am-noon
Location: Joyce Ellington Branch Library, 491 East Empire Street, San Jose, CA 95112

Description:
This is a participative workshop for people who identify with, or are interested in, the Zapatista movement for liberation in Chiapas, Mexico, and the application of Zapatismo in our own communities in the U.S. The Zapatistas have been very active in the last two years, hosting international Escuelitas ("Little Schools") about "Freedom According to the Zapatistas", seminars and a congress for indigenous movements throughout mexico, and an international Seminar on "Critical Thought Versus the Capitalist Hydra". They have also been under attack by the Mexican government and paramilitaries, most famously in 2014 with the murder of Compañero Galeano in the Caracol of La Realidad. We plan to brainstorm how our movements can engage with the Zapatistas and Zapatismo, and to create a communication network for urgent response, which could multiply the effectiveness of consulate demonstrations and other actions through coordination and simultaneity. Groups in Northern California have been meeting to begin this process, and we would like to join with groups from other regions at the USSF to further this work.
