Palm Drive Foundation Launches "Open Our Hospital" Campaign at Town Hall Monday
Turnaround Specialist Terry Newmyer Joins Reopening Team and Tells of "Extraordinary Strategies" for Small Hospitals That Could Make Palm Drive Thrive"
On Monday, June 9, at 7 p.m. in Sebastopol’s Community Church auditorium at 1000 Gravenstein Highway North, the Palm Drive Health Care Foundation will be launching its “Open Our Hospital” Campaign at a community meeting. The Foundation’s “Visionary Palm Drive Hospital” plan will be announced and discussed, and Doctors Richard Powers and Jorge Gonzales, who will help lead this effort, will speak to the public about the essential need for our community to re-open Palm Drive Hospital.
The guest speaker of the Town Hall will be Terry Newmyer, a nationally recognized hospital turnaround specialist who transformed nearby St. Helena Hospital from a likely closing due to monthly million dollar losses to a thriving community-serving health care system with $100 million in revenue growth. Newmyer will talk about other thriving small hospitals in the region, and how Palm Drive can become financially viable and sustainable.
“The extraordinary strategies and assets that helped St. Helena recover can be successful in Sebastopol,” explains Newmyer. “They might include a no-wait ER, community philanthropy, a financially beneficial strategic relationship with a larger health care system, destination orthopedics, and physician recruitment. Palm Drive, with its extraordinary reputation and a supportive community, does not need to lose money.”
Gail Thomas, President of the Foundation, and Jim Maresca, the Palm Drive District Board member, will also be speaking at the meeting. The Foundation is working toward a reopened hospital with a financially sustainable model that includes an emergency room, acute care, surgical beds, radiology, and essential related services. “The Palm Drive Foundation is eager and enthusiastic about helping our Health Care District fulfill its public mission of providing a hospital with emergency and acute care services for the 60,000 citizens in our West Sonoma County area,” Thomas said. “We are particularly interested in exploring services which meet the needs of our senior community in a new model of financial sustainability.”
The event will also premiere a short video entitled, “Palm Drive Saved My Life,” in which area residents and hospital nurses express their gratitude for the lifesaving and compassionate service that Palm Drive has provided for generations.
