Move to Amend Sonoma County is working hard to gather 25,000 signatures of Sonoma County voters to qualify our "Build Democracy, End Corporate Rule" initiative for the 2014 ballot. This initiative would enable Sonoma County voters to voice support for an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that says (in short) “Corporations are not people and Money is not speech."


We have created a unique ‘crowd-signing kit’ that enables YOU to help gather signatures without attending meetings or standing in front of super markets. Just show the petition to your like-minded friends and family, ask them to sign it, then return it to us.

The ‘crowdsigning kit’ includes:

• Two-2 sided petitions sheets (20 signatures)
  
• Guidelines for circulators of the petition
  
• A 1-page explanation of this campaign to share with your friends

This campaign is part of a nation-wide response to the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision of 2010 that allows for unlimited, anonymous spending in our elections by corporations. Through local ballot initiatives such as ours, people across the nation are making their voices heard!!

In California, Mendocino County passed a similar initiative in 2012. This year Sonoma County joins three other California counties in pushing to qualify this issue for the ballot (Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and Humboldt). If all four counties succeed this year we will have 10% of California counties on record in support of overturning Citizens United.
