San Geronimo Valley Family Jam Fest with The Rock Collection and Tom Finch Group

    TOMORROW! (Sunday)

This year's Valley Family Jam Fest has a great lineup! The Rock Collection are truly "All Stars!" Surely you'll recognize a few names. I'm particularly excited to catch more of LEBO (of ALO) after seeing him showcased as "Artist in Residence" at this year's High Sierra Music Festival. And The Tom Finch Group is my new favorite band who recently had their Sebastopol Debut at the Hopmonk.

This is a real sweet outdoor show. If you are coming from Sonoma County be sure to take the beautiful backroad from Petaluma through Nicasio.

The Rock Collection is a brand new all-star group that debuted at the Oregon Country Fair last summer, and features Mark Karan(RatDog/Phil and Friends) on electric guitar, Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz (ALO) on acoustic guitar and pedal steel, Greg Anton (Zero) on drums, and Robin Sylvester (RatDog) on bass.

Mark has also toured/recorded with artists such as Dave Mason and Delaney Bramlett. Lebo is a founding member of ALO (Animal Liberation Orchestra). He has recorded/toured with Jack Johnson and has recently performed with artists such as Ernest Ranglin, and G. Love, as well as members of Phish, String Cheese Incident, and the Grateful Dead. Greg has played drums with Steve Kimock/Zero, Cast of Clowns, John Lee Hooker, Stanley Jordan and members of the Grateful Dead. Greg also co-writes songs with Robert Hunter that the Rock Collection performs. Robin has recorded/performed with the Beach Boys, Ry Cooder, Marty Balin, and Bo Diddley. Robin and Mark toured together with Bob Weir & RatDog for many years.

Among the most accomplished performers and songwriters on the jamband circuit; these four musicians have an amazing chemistry together onstage. Their shows range from delicate ballads and blues to blow-the-roof-off rock and roll Their new album, ‘Live at the Oregon Country Fair’ captures their dynamic performance. (Available on Amazon,Itunes).

The Tom Finch Group, hailing from Fairfax, plays a hip and unique blend of styles best described as but not limited to World-Funk-Rock. Tom Finch is amazing on guitar and vocals, including some really soulful lyrics and legendary axe work, and Charles Moselle on Sax is really a treat, bringing great color, creativity and depth. JJ is quite versatile and dynamic on keys and guitar while sharing lead vocals with spontaneous fire. Marc, the drummer, brings some all too rare finesse while powering the band, Ben (hand drumming) and Andius (bass - acoustic & electric) keep the rhythm hopping and interesting.

The group offers original compositions with infectious melodies, hypnotic grooves, inspiring lyrics and chants, and ecstatic solos. They also include fresh takes on a few select cover tunes from Paul Simon to Led Zeppelin. The band is extremely
versatile and it’s many flavors appeal to most audiences while the band member’s virtuosity and enthusiasm make each performance exciting.

It's a mixture of jamming and really refined composition. Each piece is a delightful sonic journey that remains interesting from start to finish. It's heavy on the instrumental part, and lighter on the lyrics which is just the way I like it. It's complex enough that makes you want to "really listen" and at the same time it's irresistible to dance!

Their original compositions bring Phish, Jeff Beck and Miles Davis to mind.
