We are painting a mural on the Odd Fellows building in downtown Sebastopol. My name is Dave Gordon, a long time Sebastopol resident who has painted 60 public art murals throughout the USA. I am now working with other local artists, including renowned wildlife artist Molly Eckler, along with young muralists Dana Vallarino and Jordan De Vito, to create a 3,000 square foot community mural on the North facing wall of the Odd Fellows building in downtown Sebastopol. All the artists are working pro bono.
The theme, based on a Kashaya Pomo story, details how Coyote the Trickster created the Sonoma coastline by the unintended consequences of his actions The large mural about the origins of the landscape has a bit of spiritual magic, a beautiful scene and a story that comes from the very roots of this area.
We have consulted with the Kashaya Pomo regarding the story and image and are welcoming their participation in the painting process.
We are inviting the community to assist us at a Community Paint Day September 22, 2013, between the hours of 12:00 noon and 5:00P.M. in the Sebastopol Community Center, 390 Morris Street, Sebastopol. We will prepare the drawing of the lower ten feet of the mural on long rolls of non-woven polyester and volunteers will fill in the proscribed areas with premixed colors. Everyone is welcome. We will install the 10 feet x 118 feet of painted material on the wall and then finish painting the sky, the ocean, the rocks and the waves on site. Molly will paint the 63 inch tall coyote
